On this day in 1990, SUE the T. rex was discovered! Amateur fossil hunter Susan Hendrickson was exploring the badlands of South Dakota when she noticed bones sticking out of a cliff. It took the crew 17 days to excavate the skeleton. SUE at 90% complete is the most complete T. rex know. It is also the second largest at 12.8 m (42 ft) long and is estimated to have weighed 8462 kg (18,655 lbs).
